Well today marks the two year mark of having the blog and one year of changing the name… And what an adventure it has been. I figured now would be the perfect time to give an updated on what has been going on in my life for the past few months.
I moved… again!
Yes. You read that right. I moved again, but I promise it is not dramatic as it sounds. I LOVED my time living in Seattle proper, and did for about nine months. I loved being able to walk or bus basically anywhere. I also loved having such a wide variety of restaurants to try and things to do. But I also did like having a really long commute, dealing with traffic and simple things like grocery shopping being a chore.
But, if I am being 100% honest, a big part of the reason I decided to move is a very special guy in my life. We started dating not that long after I moved to the are and recently we decided we wanted to live together. Living with a significant other is different than living with a roommate and it takes adjusting. I will say, now that we have gotten into a rhythm I really do love living with my main squeeze. I am going to do an apartment tour post soon!
I got a new job… again!
When I moved to Seattle, it was because I had a dream of moving here. At the time, I also wanted to try out a new profession in a new industry. I decided to move from my job working in education/non-profit to working in staffing as a recruiter. Originally I thought this would be a great way to use my skills, but in a different capacity. What I learned, was the grass isn’t always greener. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my co-workers and liked certain aspects of that job. But I kept running into a couple of problems. One, I couldn’t see myself working in that environment long term. Two, I missed the work I was doing in my old job. So, even though I only left my previous job ten months ago, I ended up accepting a new position with the organization. I have only been back with them for a month or so, but so far I am SO happy to be back! My new role is exactly what I want to be doing and I cannot see myself leaving anytime soon!
At the end of the day the culture/values of the company should match the culture you want and the values you hold. If you value having work/life balance, a company that has a norm of working 10 hour days may not be for you. If you work best under qualitative expectations, being measured by quantitative expectations may not be for you. For me, I realized that the non-profit/education world more closely matched the culture I was looking for and the values a hold.
I’m off my workout game…
In the past few months, I have gained some weight and stopped working out as much as I would like. I contribute some of this to moving, some to the job changes and some to a lot going on in my personal life. At the end of the day though, it is still my fault that I have not been working out. In the past couple of weeks, I have been making a concerted effort to get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day and eat healthier. I am going to start a series about my weekly menus and workouts soon to update you more on this!
I have had a lot going on personally…
I mentioned it above, but I have had a lot going on personally. First, for the entire month of March I was sick. It all started because every time I would eat, I would get sick afterwards. After a bunch of tests, the doctor figured out I just had a bad viral infection affecting my gallbladder and it should clear up by itself (which it did). Then in April, I had a family member pass away. I know that I am getting to an age where this will probably start happening more ofter, but that doesn’t make it any easier. This was the first time since I was little, that someone in my immediate family had passed away and it was hard. I am lucky to have super supportive friends and family, but it was a tough month.
All in all, it has been a rollercoaster over the past few months for me. But with all of the not so great things that have happened, amazing things have also happened. I am so thankful to live in an area I love, have some great friends and a wonderful boyfriend. I am excited for the rest of the summer and get back on my blogging game!
Until next time, friends…CMB
