It’s All About the…Fitness?

I’ve written about my relationship with fitness and my trends with working out in past posts (you can find those here and here). Well I am back with an update on how things have been going lately. Probably unsurprisingly, I have been off my fitness game since I moved to Seattle. With everything that has been going on in my life (confused? read my last post!), fitness was the last thing on my mind.

Home Work Out

This all came to a head recently when I ordered my bridesmaid dress for one of my best friend’s weddings. The dress came in, I tried it on and it didn’t fit. I had ordered a size up to make sure it would fit and it didn’t. I was devastated. It was a really bad day for me. That was roughly 3 months ago. I have been slowly making changes to try to get healthier, but hadn’t fully committed until recently.


Within the last couple of weeks I have gotten a lot more serious about focusing on my health and living a healthier lifestyle. After doing research, reading about other people’s journeys and watching fitness tips videos, I decided on a couple of things. First, I wanted to find ways to make changes that I can sustain long term. I didn’t want to find quick fixes that would help me loose weight, instead I want to find ways to change behaviors long term. I also wanted to find exercises, food, etc. that I really liked and wouldn’t get bored of. I wanted to get picky.

So… where am I going to go from here? Well here is my plan!

Be active for at least 45 minutes a day.ย Now I am not saying I want to do an intense work out for 45 minutes every day, but I want to be active. Go for a walk, a bike ride, etc. Beyond that, my goal is to work out 4-5 days a week. I am hoping to try out some new types of workouts, but also plan to rely on some old favorites (interval running and hiking). In general, I just want to be more active.

Make sure to stand up at least once an hour. I know this probably sounds funny, but here me out. I work a desk job. I sit ALL day. And I have noticed it has taken a toll on my body. So I am going to try to get up at least once an hour. Just get up, do a quick lap around my apartment and get my body moving.

Stop eating things that hurt my body. Now this is a big one and going to be a hard one. I am lactose intolerant. The problem: I love cheese. I have already started to find good alternatives for things like coffee creamer, yogurt, etc. But cheese is my one vice. But moving forward I am going to try to cut it out of my diet as much as possible.

Create a meal plan each week to ensure healthy eating. This is a big deal for me. In the past, when I have been at my healthiest, it is partially because I planned out my meals and did meal prep each week. ย So, I am bringing this back.

Don’t get down on myself or get discouraged. Over the past few years I have had a problem where when I am not seeing results fast enough or I have a bad week, I just give up. Are these setbacks? Yes. Are these reasons to completely give up on getting healthy? No. So I am going to do my darnedest to not let those things get me down.

Post weekly updates to the blog. I am hoping this will keep me accountable. To exercise. To create the meal plans. To not get down on myself. To not eat cheese. I am going to start posting these on Mondays, but obviously that is not a possibility this week.ย So check out this weeks plan below!
