Welcome to another week of the “Educate Yourself” series. Up this week is podcasts. Personally, I love podcasts. I love the art of storytelling and being able to hear how people explain things. When doing research, I was excited to see how many podcasts there are out there. I know that this is not a comprehensive list and will definitely add to it over time. If you have a recommendation, please leave it in the comments!
Last week I shared a list of things to watch that illustrate many of the issues that have been brought into full view in the past few weeks. This week I am focusing on things to read. Because it takes a lot longer to read a book, rather than watch something, I have yet to read many of the things on this list, though I hope to. Again, this is by no means an exhaustive list of books or articles or blogs to read. Rather, it is the list of things to read that I have found so far.
I am a very visual person. While I can take in and comprehend information well when I read it or hear about it, I understand it so much more when I am able to see it. I prioritized watching documentaries, mini-series and movies over the past couple of weeks because I knew it would help give me a base of knowledge that would make reading books or listening to podcasts that much more meaningful. I have taken in a lot of content, but have admittedly not seen everything on this list. If it is something I haven’t watched, it is something I have read was a good option and intend to watch at some point.
Over the past few weeks I have been doing what I can to educate myself more on systemic racism and how that plays a role in essentially ever aspect our society. I truly believe in the power of education and feel there are so many people that could benefit from educating themselves on these topics. I have been working on compiling all of the resources, books, articles, videos, etc. that I have been finding to put into posts in the coming weeks. I wanted to share a preview of a few of the people and items that have had the biggest impact on me so far.
