I am SO excited about this room. We have been working on it for a couple of months now, finding the perfect little details to add to each corner. I revealed our vision in this post and was pleasantly surprised how closely the vision and the finished product aligned. I was also excited with how many items we already had that we were able to reuse. While there are a couple of items I just haven’t been able to make a decision on, I am really excited about how the room has turned out.
I mentioned in my last post that this room is SMALL. We needed to plan to use every inch of space to make it work. While I don’t love beds against a wall, it was really our only option. Regardless, I ended up really liking how everything is laid out.
Styling the bookcase was probably my favorite part of this whole process. I wanted to bring in natural elements that connected to the beautiful nature that is all around us in Washington state. The abalone shell, which was a gift from a family member, inspired a lot of this vision. I also found the teak bookends and my vision was solidified. We both love to read and I wanted to include some of our beautiful hardback vintage books. While not all of them are vintage at the moment, it is a fun thing to collect while on trips.
The nightstand was a bit tricky to style because it is small. We couldn’t fit anything bigger so we had to make it work. I wanted to keep it simple and make sure there was still space for guests to have room for their phones, watch, etc. A couple of coffee table books, a lamp and a couple of knick knacks and we are good to go.
The dresser in this room is actually the same one I have had since childhood. I had painted it a robin’s egg blue a while back and it got a bit beat up after multiple moves. So… I completely sanded it down and painted the little guy white. I found the simple gold pulls on Amazon and added those (they are surprisingly good quality). I still want to add some trim or something to the front, but we will see! It is also right next to the closet, which we kept super simple. We left the closet system as is and just added some baskets with items that guests may need.
The little corner that the dresser is in, is perfect for a fun little design touch. The sea urchin wall art are something we already had, but thought it went with the vibe of the room and was the perfect fit for the little corner. I also wanted to add something simple on top of the dresser that complimented the rest of the room.
Obviously the whole point of a guest room is having a place for people to sleep. I am completely in love with the bed in this room. It is the perfect mix of styles that both Riley and I love. It also inspired the vision for the room. All of the bedding, except for the sheets, we actually already had as extras for our own room. I love the striped duvet cover and thought a beautiful, feminine floral sheet would compliment it perfectly. I also added these beautiful white picture frames with prints of Nantucket. We spent our honeymoon there and it is the perfect little reminder.
All in all, I absolutely LOVE how this room has turned out. There are a couple of things I still want to add, but just haven’t found the right pieces. Namely the ceiling light fixture, the throw pillows and a new, fluffier comforter. Regardless, it was so fun to plan, design and decorate this room. It is nice to have a room in our house that really feels like it is put together and whole. Until next time, friends… CML
